Final Project Overview

Treatment:
For my final project, I will be creating a short animation titled “The Semipocalypse.” In the vein of old World War II news reels, the film will detail the titular event, in which Hell beasts pour out of a crack in the sky and deliver destruction to humankind. It will be completely black and white (or perhaps a deep sepia if that goes better with the final character models), and it will feature a full narration and “period” music.
The project will be completed predominately in After Effects, using Photoshop to create the character models. The backgrounds will also be drawn by hand in Photoshop. Some minor character voice work will be required, but only a few lines. Movements will be kept to a necessary minimum, while retaining a sort of humorous quality (think Adult Swim stuff.)
The plot begins as our narrator explains a huge glowing crack in the sky. We see scientists and religious fanatics trying to explain the phenomenon. Then, monsters appear and begin to kill and maim the entire human race. We see people devoured by bears made of knives, sand eels, and the “monsters who eat only eyeballs.” Naturally, the government tries to respond with force, but the crack in the sky is harder to penetrate than initially thought. Eventually, the literal Devil (his name is Ryan) appears and reveals that it’s all been a misunderstanding.

Five Seconds of Rotoscope

Well, here it is. Countless hours of drawing the
same trees over and over again results in this:
five seconds of Apple Boy taking a stroll.

Rotoscope Update

Just an update on the rotoscope. Color filling is
going well, if a little tediously. I guess that's the
name of the game. Above is frame 88.

Angels In America Motion Graphic

So here's my motion graphic for the production of
Angels In America. I'm still trying to get a grasp on
AE CS6, but it essentially turned out how I wanted.
I was looking to merge the locale of New York with the
theme of loneliness.

Rotoscope Design Plan

Here is the initial test run for my portion of the rotoscope project.

First the raw frame of "Apple Boy."
 Here's some lines.
Let's get that background image out of there.
I wanted the lines to be sort of thick and precise.
And this is the final product. My goal was to
reproduce the look of a children's book.
I wasn't sure if Apple Boy should be an actual apple or
rather a boy who picks apples. I tried to roll with
a combination
